Public records policies and contact information for Tennessee counties

Below is a list of Tennessee county public records policies and contact information for public records requests.

This list was generated in March 2018 as part of an audit of 306 government entity’s public records policies in Tennessee. We surveyed all 95 counties in Tennessee. Only the counties that provided a copy of their policy or had a copy online are listed and linked to below.

Notes:

1. If the county had multiple policies for different departments, such as a separate policy for courts or for the sheriff’s department, the policy linked to is the policy for the county mayor or executive offices.
2. Some policies covered several departments within the county, but had separate phone numbers and contact information for each department. If there were multiple contacts listed in the policy, we noted that, and listed the contact for the county mayor or executive’s office. You can find additional contact information for specific departments by clicking on the link to the policy.
