Maria De Varenne, editor of The Tennessean, is leading a media coalition challenging access to crime records in Tennessee. The Tennessean filed a lawsuit after it was denied access to crime records collected by Nashville police in their investigation into an alleged rape in a Vanderbilt University dorm room. Members of Vanderbilt’s football team have been charged with sexual assault.
