Nashville chosen for 2017 NFOIC Summit

The National Freedom of Information Coalition, an alliance of state open government groups and freedom of information supporters, has selected Nashville for it 2017 summit. The 2017 NFOIC Summit will be held in Nashville on Sept. 29-30. The two-day annual NFOIC summit event brings together state-based nonprofit FOI organizations, academic and First Amendment centers, journalists, citizens and attorneys to discuss trends in laws, policies and practices at state and local levels throughout the United States. Its focus is on transparency in government and access to government information. TCOG executive director Deborah Fisher elected to NFOIC board

Deborah Fisher, executive director of Tennessee Coalition for Open Government, was elected to the National Freedom of Information Coalition Board of Directors at the organization's annual FOI summit in Denver Oct 9-10. Deborah Fisher Fisher was among three new additions to the NFOIC board. Also elected to three-year terms were: David Cuillier, Director of the University of Arizona School of Journalism and chair of the Society of Professional Journalists, Jeff Roberts, executive director of the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition, and Justin Silverman, executive director of New England First Amendment Coalition. NFOIC and SPJ combine war chests to fight for Freedom of Information

(TCOG is a member of NFOIC): INDIANAPOLIS/Jefferson City - The Society of Professional Journalists and the National Freedom of Information Coalition are joining forces - and legal war chests -  to help citizens and journalists fight for public records.
